Pacific Whit
Chapter 1
This was not the first time Abe Whitmore had flown into Sydney airport with a dead body. But it was the first time it was a fresh one and included a killer still at large. That short handled knife buried deep between Dale Sullivan's third and fourth intercostals, angling down in search of the heart suggested an unwelcome expertise. Not someone I want up close and personal, thought the PI.
Able Bodied Investigations specialised in solving historical mysteries and uncovering lost or obscure geneological, even archaeological history: Whitmore's passion. Uncovering and bringing back historical materials, documents and old bones happened often enough for it to have become almost routine. Airport security and even the police seemed to look forward to each new treasure haul, as long as they had fair warning - and the plethora of attendant paperwork.
Whitmore's solved cases were often enough happy affairs, sometimes with a surprise or a twist in the findings. Most subjects were already known to be long dead, and the existence or absence of heirs could become a bonus or a bane for the clients. The unearthed articles Whitmore found, even when the clients wanted to keep them, were making a name for the PI with the local chapter of the Australian Historical Society.
But this body, recently deceased, did not have the convenience of long dead assailants. Who knew where the bastard was now, or what the motive had been? Or if it would breed more of the like? Maybe already there were others, the PI considered and made a mental note to check the police missing persons register.
